Our initiative addresses significant environmental concerns related to the Drax Biomass Facility. This facility has been penalized $2.5 million, the largest known fine imposed on such an establishment, due to its emissions exceeding acceptable limits for air pollutants and particulate matter by more than three times the allowable amount. These emissions have adversely affected the nearby communities in Gloster for an extended period, highlighting the urgent need for scrutiny and action to protect the environment and public health.

Residents of the community—77% of whom are Black and 41% of whom struggle to make ends meet below the poverty line—have faced increasingly serious health challenges since the plant commenced operations in 2014. This alarming trend calls for urgent action and justice.

Greater Greener Gloster Project is dedicated to shedding light on the pressing environmental and public health issues that this facility has exacerbated. Their mission is to advocate for accountability regarding the harm inflicted by air pollution, while also pushing for significant improvements in environmental standards, public health, and the overall quality of life for all residents in the area.
